Every Idea Has Every Idea
The mind fears emptiness and identity-loss, yet what we are is already empty and complete—thoughts only create more thoughts without revealing the truth of our nature.
We have some in Satsang whose minds are going ‘Run! Run! Just run! This is not for you, you are not ready for this yet, or this is not helping at all! Run!’ and they can keep saying ‘Run! Run! Run!’ [Laughs] It’s just the manifestation of this fear, fear of the unknown, fear of death, in a way, fear of losing all representation about yourself. Can we see what a struggle life is then? Because you are empty now. You actually are empty now. You are in Truth now. Nothing is needed. But you try to paint a picture of yourself ‘every’ moment. You try to give yourself a shape. You try to make yourself decipherable. Because what you are is so indecipherable. You cannot fathom yourself. When the mind comes and says, ‘Okay this is what you are, this is what you are, this is what you are’, every thought is offering you a picture of yourself. Every notion is mixed up with every other notion. Do we realize this? [Smiles] Every idea has every idea. [Looks around] ‘Every idea has every idea’. No idea is independent. It’s like a dictionary: it’s a big loop which doesn’t ultimately tell you anything but just tells you other ideas. You look it up, it tells you other words, you look up those, they tell you other words, look up those words, they will tell you more words. What truth is actually represented? Just terms after terms. So, one notion contains every notion. Maybe this is what the metaphor of chakravyuha (multi-tier defensive formation that looks like a blooming lotus) was. Chakravyuha was this maze only decipherable by the Lord.
Key Teachings
- The mind runs from truth due to fear of losing its self-image, but what we truly are is already empty, complete, and in Truth now
- Every idea only points to other ideas like a dictionary with no ultimate reference - no thought can capture what we are
- We constantly try to paint a picture of ourselves because our true nature is indecipherable to the mind
