Don´t Allow Your Mind to Devalue Your Discovery

You are discovering that which is unlimited, unborn, and beyond time and space - do not let the mind devalue this discovery it cannot comprehend.

Seeker

Is there something that suddenly does happen… in the event when you suddenly realize That. But you realize something; it has to be something like….

Ananta

If it was a thing, you would not be happy with it. Would you be? If, aeer all of this, what you came to realize was just a thing. Thing means what? Thing means some quality, some aZribute.

Seeker

Some quality.

Ananta

Some quality. Now, all qualiHes come and go. All the sages have said, ‘Everything with qualiHes, it comes and goes.’ Then, if all you came to it at the end of this exploraHon of many years of sadhana [spiritual pracHce] and everything was just something with qualiHes which will itself wither off into death, would you be happy with that? So, that also would not [saHsfy you]. Okay, tell me what would that something be that would saHsfy you?

Seeker

Something which is just unlimited, unbound.

Ananta

That is what you are finding. But maybe you are expecHng to see it like the sky with clouds floaHng under it, something you feel like unlimited like sky. But the sky is not. Compared to you, it is limited because its aZributes also fade away. When you start flying off into space, this so- called blue sky does not last very long; then, there is this black empty space. But you are even more unlimited than this. But if you had a quality, your qualitaHve play actually is your limited play, the manifest play is your limited play. But that which witnesses the manifest play itself is not limited by it. The sakshi [witness] itself is not limited by its own projecHon. So, do not allow your mind to devalue your discovery, because that is what it will do — oh, but that is nothing, what is the point of that, I didn’t get anything. But you are ge^ng something which your mind cannot understand. You are finding that which is not in this universe. You are finding that in which this universe is. You are finding that which is not limited by Hme and space. You are finding that which was never born and cannot die. You are finding that which has no boundaries or limitaHons of any sort, that which does not change with Hme. Such a discovery you are making. So, do not allow your mind to come and say, ‘But that’s it.’ Because it is speaking about something it cannot understand. [Silence] Asking for the mind’s conclusion of God is like a asking a monkey to do a food review. [Chuckles] It’s a bit like that. (I don’t know where these examples come from. But it’s a bit like that.) What is it going to say? Will it say, ‘Extremely fine French cuisine’. Is it going to say that? [Smiles]

Seeker

Bandar kya jane adrak ka swaad? [What will the monkey understand the taste of ginger?]

Ananta

Exactly. [Chuckles] In Hindi, we have a saying ‘What will the monkey understand the taste of ginger? [Smiles] So, asking for the mind’s report on what you are discovering about yourself is like that. The mind will only say, ‘What was that? What is the point of this? For this I spent so much Hme?’ [Smiles] But, if for this you were to dedicate a million life Hmes, it would sHll be worth it.

Key Teachings

  • What you discover cannot be a 'thing' with qualities, because all qualities come and go and would not satisfy you
  • The witness (sakshi) is not limited by its own projections - you are unlimited, unborn, and beyond time, space, and change
  • Do not allow the mind to devalue your discovery - the mind cannot understand what you are finding and will dismiss it as 'nothing'
