Cannot Think About It; Cannot Get To It; You Are It

The Self cannot be thought about, experienced, or found through seeking - you already are it, and the search is the obstacle; what you are is the aware witness of all experiences, not the experiences themselves.

Cannot think about it. Cannot get to it. You are it. So, what is it that you are? What is this that you are? And, how to confirm that this is it? Can you use a concept? You already said no. Now, what experience will prove to you that you found the Self? Which experience has to happen that will prove that you are the Self? [Smiles] If this whole room started shaking, if all the multi-coloured lights, all the chakras, kundalini, everything, started shining, then you got the Self? Even that, you will say, ‘No, no, another spiritual experience.’ Or even worse, ‘Oh, I hope this does not go now. This is the way I am supposed to be and only then I can say I am enlightened,’ or something like that. If it comes, then problem. If it doesn’t come, then problem. [Smiles] This is the mind of the spiritual seeker. Which experience will prove to you that you are that which is witnessing the experience? Which experience has to come to confirm the witnessing, the awareness? And, experiences we’ve all had. And, in today’s world, you don’t even have to have deep meditation — you can put a virtual reality headset on, you can have the programming show you anything. What’s the big deal? But what about that which is aware of it? Can that come from a program? So, your Being and that which is aware of your Being and aware of all of these perceptions happening — isn’t that the most intimate to you? So, what you should try and do instead of trying to find the Self is you should try and lose the Self. See how that works out. Just try to lose it. Lose your Self. Then? This is simplest [smiles], most direct. Because it is the search which is the fallacy. And mostly in our spiritual seeking we do not realize, of course, but our spiritual seeking is just like any other seeking in the world — some are seeking cars and money, some are seeking relationships, some are seeking an experience or concept of God. But there is no such thing, or we can say that everything is that — either way. Either we see that everything is just that, or we can see That actually - That Which Is not capturable in perception and concept.

Key Teachings

  • The Self cannot be thought about or attained through any experience - you already are it
  • No spiritual experience (kundalini, chakra awakening, etc.) can prove you are the Self; the witnessing awareness is what you are, not the experiences
  • Instead of trying to find the Self, try to lose the Self - the search itself is the fallacy
