Are You Dependent on Any Story?
The belief we are the body is an illusion - the ego seeks to free itself but is the problem; true liberation comes from recognizing you ARE Awareness itself, known without thought, when you want Truth for Truth's sake without expecting results.
Father when you ask this quesSon, ‘What do you feel you are right about?’ a spontaneous answer is coming is that, I feel like I am right about being a body and to support this body comes all the various, the need for money, the need for health, everything …
Agreed, agreed. So let’s take that proposiSon, if you really feel you are right that you are the body, if you really feel that you are right that you are the body (this is for everyone) what would you be doing here? [Silence] Like what is here, for the body? In Satsang… like many of us have the belief that we believe that we are the body. [Laughter] But how is it possible that if you really believed that you are the body, why would you come to Satsang? [Silence] No ice cream here, atleast not usually. So it’s just a belief that we believe we are the body. [Silence] If you truly believed you are the body you would not be here. So I’m not believing that you believe.
No I don’t believe it either. [Laughing]
I know it is the most popular noSon probably in spirituality that we have to get rid of body condiSoning, body consciousness and come to true consciousness. That’s what people say, that that is the fundamental thing. But in that presumpSon, we first start believing we have that condiSon. We don’t actually. Let me illustrate that instead of repeaSng it. In our last three problems that we had, we don’t have enough money, of course most of us have the problem we are not Free, relaSonship problem, most popular along with ‘not Free’, so how is that related to the body? Not enough money, the body cares about that? Manager shouted at me at work, body cares about that? So we are not as deeply idenSfied with the body as we may think, we are more idenSfied with the myth of ‘me’, of which the ‘me’ tries to co-opt this body as its main instrument but actually this body is just an instrument of pure Consciousness. Who wants to be free of body idenSficaSon?
Me
You see, not the body itself. The body is very innocent, it has no such conceptual problems.
The ‘me’ wants to be rid of the ‘me’.
Exactly, that is the seeker, the thief itself dressed as the policeman trying to catch the thief. The Truth is much simpler than that. If you did not want anything from it you can find the Truth right now. [Snaps his fingers] What do you want it to do for you? That is not the deal. It is not a shortcut to win in life. Many feel like, if I find God then I won. I tried to get the joy, the bliss through other means, it doesn’t really work but then I was told there is a shortcut to that forever being in a certain state. So I’m going to find God so I can forever be in that state but that way you cannot find God. It has to become God for God’s sake. Truth for Truths sake. And why is it important to we say that - not to make you feel guilty or unworthy. It is only important to say that because this is the benchmark you will use as he (looks at a Sangha member) was saying. I keep looking for the exhibiSon of Truth through this body, then I will really know I am free or the mind, the mind should only have a certain type of thoughts or best, no thoughts at all, then I am free. But if you expect no results from the recogniSon of the Truth, then get the best results. [Chuckles] For best results don’t expect results. So some may call it deep devoSon, we just love God for God’s sake. Or some may call it a great commitment to the Truth, we just want the Truth, we are unwilling to live a lie anymore independent of how it plays out for this body-mind a~er that. But if there is constant concern for this body-mind, saying, ‘Am I gevng there yet? Am I finding it? Where is my bliss? What happened? Why are my thoughts sSll…’ you see, then the journey seems to perpetuate. [Pause] And I told you the master key already. The master key is ‘What is it that you know independent of having to think or perceive?’ So leave your thoughts and percepSons alone for just a moment. Are you sSll there? [Silence] You are aware of this existence and you are this Awareness, itself. This is completely known, intuiSvely in your heart and you cannot fit it into your head. If you fit just that much into your head, you’re done.
Key Teachings
- We don't actually believe we are the body - it's a false belief we think we have; if we truly believed we were the body, we wouldn't come to Satsang seeking anything
- The 'me' (ego) that seeks to free itself is the problem itself - the seeker is the thief dressed as policeman trying to catch the thief
- The master key: What is known independent of thinking or perceiving - you are aware of this existence and you ARE this Awareness itself; Truth is found only when sought for Truth's sake, not for any result or state
