We are not defined by any notion or concept - when we stop mistaking ideas about ourselves for Truth, we rest in what the heart already knows.
Just to, so, even the notion of the one who is identified is a notion.
Yes. Every notion is a notion.
Every notion is a notion.
Just like every thought is a thought [Laughs].
Yeah, yeah, yeah [Laughs].
[Chuckles] [Pause] Now, there’s nothing inherently wrong with notion. The war is not against notion. The war, if there is one, or the whole ax or chop, if there is one, is to take ourselves to be that small that a notion defines us.
Mm-hm.
That [a notion] it is telling the truth about us, you see? A notion is harmless, it is just a notion. But, when we take it to be the Truth, like, if I look at this plant and say, ‘Okay, this plant represents me fully’ you would say, ‘What?! Of course it doesn’t represent you fully.’ In the same way, no notion represents your life, or anything that is happening. [Pause] [Laughs] Huh? [Smiles]
[Laughs] So, when we try to do this ‘I Watching’ let’s say, [Pause] well, actually it’s also to recognize from, well it’s uh...well, let’s uh...shut-up [Laughs in unison].
There’s nothing that your Heart doesn’t know, my Dear. There is nothing that your Heart doesn’t know, everything is natural for That. And the instrument where we try to find out, it doesn’t have the capacity to meet the answer.
Mm-hm.
Key Teachings
- The one who is identified is itself merely a notion - no concept or idea can define your true nature
- Notions are harmless in themselves, but become limiting when we mistake them for Truth about who we are
- The heart already knows everything; the mind's instrument lacks the capacity to meet the answer
