Consciousness Is The Fruit of Satsang - 2nd October 2017
Saar (Essence)
Ananta points to the effortless, uncolored presence of consciousness that is already here. He teaches that suffering only arises when we pick up the 'notion' of being a limited, separate individual.
The best news I can give you is that you have to do nothing to get rid of the ego.
You are already in the best place you can ever be; the mind only pretends there is better.
Existence is effortlessly present. Right now, you are empty of all notions about yourself.

What is always here? What is here? I might go there? No, no, speaking physically right now, the one presence is here. This being. If somebody would ask me, 'Can you show me God?' I say, 'Yes, but you have to know this question: Can you stop the existence of presence?' Uncolored by any attribute, it is naturally here. This secret is the only truth you ever need to hear. This consciousness remains, and that should be no matter what might be in the worldly sphere. What does it mean to go 'there'? To go there implies to take a position, to give this unadulterated presence an attribute or authority. To say, 'I am something.' That 'I am' is as if I have become something, and this 'something' is merely deception because you know that you are not that limited. That 'something' is always a limitation.
So, I need... 'I am a seeker.' That 'something' is like that dangerous thing continuing. Remember the story we used to read? The story about this princess whose father wanted to check whether she's really his daughter, the princess. So what he did is, she had some eighty pairs of mattresses, but under that, he put a piece of a pea. So this pea was there, and this princess was used to so much comfort that she couldn't sleep because under the layer of eighty mattresses, there was this pea. So this 'something' is that which will not let you come to satisfaction until you get rid of the center. That's why I say the best news I can give you is that you have to do nothing to get rid of it. Right now, you are this. This 'I am' presence is uncolored, but you also have the power to pick up this notion, this concept about yourself: 'I am something.'
So if we allow these notions to come and go... some of you have not heard this example. There is this restaurant called Yo! Sushi. They have all these dishes that come one after the other on a conveyor belt. So you are sitting at your table and there is a conveyor belt running past you, and all the dishes are color-coded. So these offerings are coming. The mind is offering these notions. Being is here, the same. How to cut this and paste it over the play of individuality? Now we are done with stuffing ourselves with notions. Then we get tired of it. We like the red one, then we say, 'I have a blue one.' This one you say is 'good education,' 'relationship,' 'security.' All of these dishes that come are an offer of all of them that you are 'something.' Nothing wants to free consciousness. Consciousness is already all-radiating.
So what to do as these dishes are coming in? Please don't pick them. If you pick them up, what to do? Nothing. Or pick up the next. If you pick that up, pick up the next, because what can happen is that many times when we do pick up a notion about ourselves, then we think we also pick up the next notion that 'I am so-and-so' and 'we are so stupid' and 'so petty.' So this is pointing you to the truth of what you are right now. Do you have to think about it? Do you have to understand it? This is contrary to all the conditions that we had so far, isn't it? Where it can seem like a struggle because our habit is like this. You have nothing to do, right? Just naturally the presence is here. The Satguru is here. This consciousness is there. You can say the fruit of Satsang—this is the fruit that is on offer here.
Can I give it to you straight? To come to a Satsang with me, do you have to stay like this? All the events of Satsang are things like, 'You stay as you are.' That only means: don't pick up that which is false. It's too easy. Decoration is too easy. If you are just a little bit more in position—'Oh, I am this or that'—no. 'I am 50% free' or '100% free.' Even 'I am enlightened.' But even the concept 'I am the Self' is muted unless we first make ourselves into something, which is what? 'I must be this body-mind with a particular me,' or 'I must have some experiences as confirmation of my figure.' Even 'I am getting this,' then I must be this. This cannot be. So play this like follows. It is so easy. Just presence. Being is not even about that. Not about any feeling, not about any thought, not about anywhere to get to that which is ever-present.

And you start to see this for yourself. Then all these stories about one who is sitting on the chest of treasure and believing he doesn't have anything—this is the spiritual seeker. You already have the forty. You already have it. And then tell me, who needs something? Yesterday I was saying that the buffet is on your table, yet you are licking the scraps on the floor. Where to go to find God? Where will you go to find yourself? What are you already? There's something now. All of us have one of you, and some of you I have seen for many years. I know that you might have your favorite 'why not.' But why do we keep this top, this button? Or we can inquire into it. That's either one: surrender or inquire. If you have a character notion, then offer it up at the Master's feet. Finish it. Or ask, 'Who is this but you?'
What about when I go home? Why isn't it finding 'I am the understanding, I'm free'? So inquire into who's hungry. Who are you referring to as yourself? And I will just threat this body-mind. Are they not also an appearance the same way that this body is? We try to apply this what we are finding in Satsang, but we cannot do that. Many times it is this which remains like a burden on us. It is not how we use that way. It is not a self-help class. But it really is that and beyond all there is, empty of notions. This is so apparent. Struggling to find yourself, the minister of being seems to be a mist of emotions, these sticky labels about ourselves and the world. Applying for what to do? The list of what you want. If you don't use fancy words like 'desire' and 'intention,' what it means is the plan for what you want to do and this about what you want. This is desire and devotion.
And what did you do to create this presence here? How much effort did it take for you to be present? Effortless. It's here. So where to go looking for that which is already here? Which practice will get us there? Before we leave, a useful practice must be that which says, 'Remain empty of all notions about myself.' No matter what the practice is, that which you are, no matter which country you might be hearing this from, whether it's day or night, what your situation might be in life, at work or family or whatever—this what I'm saying is true for all of us. The existence is effortlessly present. And in this moment right now, you are empty of all notions about yourself. Actually, it happens so suddenly. It's about finishing off a great function. The mind's favorite concepts, even now, some of you might be holding on to: 'This is fine, so this fact will make this still not have a particular experience.' Did something not be holding on to a particular grievance? Some idea of individuality? All these are being shaken out of us as we come to Satsang like this.
Direct Satsang. You find that many come expecting peace also, but you might find that the volume seems even turned up for them because these notions can start to feel like they are unsuitable; they need to be vomited out. So all the clean-up, all the empty, naturally just is here now. Now you want to see what happened. This is not a matter of an elegant microphone with a good story. It's wrong, all of it. But if you go and revisit the garbage truck, you just want your favorite necklace or something back, then you might feel like, 'I will avoid the stink of the rest of it, I will only go and get my necklace.' But the entire thing seems to be there waiting for you. All personal ideas about ourselves, they are ready to be picked up and yet again, this is what we do. We keep revisiting the garbage truck thinking that something good will come out of it.
But we know the power of presence. So just here, effortlessly, the world is moving in the light of that presence. When you exist, the world moves on. Wake up in the morning, you see if the world is on pause? The body, the heart is already beating. That is happening. Something is moving. Everything is going on. As soon as you are present, everything is functioning on its own effortlessly. The presence is here effortlessly. That which is aware of even this presence is completely beyond the idea of 'but then does this mean you've got it?' Does this mean you haven't got it? No, because even though it's a position, even that is 'this something.' 'I am something, now I am free.' Freedom doesn't need a concept to announce itself.
This exists: the oscillation of the mind. It goes from 'I'm so bound, bound, bound' to many times in Satsang, 'I'm so free, free, free.' Still coming very individualistic. One still holds the concept of the body and this highlighting some of our favorite concepts. So when they come, you can just allow them to come and go without the wind. Empty. See, everything is just good. Even perception is happening just naturally. Who decided it or didn't decide to hear these words? These words would still be heard. We are not deciding to hear the sounds of the world. They are heard without doing anything. Existence. So in it, so much is happening. Billions of body functions, thousands of perceptions happening every moment. The idea can be that 'I need to invent this ideal for me that is going to help this one run this life.' This is the one. 'Unless I decide, unless I do, unless I desire, this life is completely terrible.'
Is that one who is beating my heart, that is making my brain function, that has done all of this on this level? This is arrogance. Arrogance means 'I am supreme.' It is not arrogance to see that I am God. I am as God itself. But the idea that I have something separate which has some power over something—this is the upside-down nature of the world. The upside-down nature of the mind says to see the Self is arrogance, but to say that God is limited and His or Her limits apply to where this boundary starts—beyond this, it's after me. Yes, God is running the world, but where this human body starts, then it's my problem. What is that word? Arrogance. This is how the mind operates. This is how the mind thinks: this body-mind is a separate existence from everything else. I'm sorry, that's autonomy over why? Why does this happen? Like, 'I'm not getting it. Why is my life like this? Why do I have to have it?'
So I may be asking: Who are you? Who has this problem? This came to me a few weeks ago, that I noticed the mind's attraction to this world and its complete repulsion towards this world. Who am I? Just one. Are these favorite notions also losing their power? So that everything is moving on its own in the light of my presence. The world appearance seems to function so naturally. Mind cannot suffer unless I pick up a notion about myself. That is the design of the screen. As a separate segment to be happy, it won't be anything but to suffer to death. Most of us feel childhood was so happy. A lot of time, why are children so happy? Because the child is not mixing up its presence with the notion of being something or wanting to get somewhere. If you knew that you are already in the best place you can ever be, there would be no 'want.' So the mind is only telling you that there is a better place on offer because it is only selecting these two: real resistance to what is. What is, is not enough for the mind. The present is not enough.
