Saar (Essence)

Ananta teaches that by relinquishing the sense of doership over actions, speech, and thoughts, one dissolves the ego and its burdens. He emphasizes that spiritual maturity is the transition from a closed to an open heart.

I am not the doer of my actions, the speaker of my words, nor the thinker of my thoughts.
The entire spiritual journey is simply the play of moving from a closed fist to an open fist.
If you have no conditions, hearing that you are the solitary witness is the end of the journey.

Becoming first intolerant of action, then of excessive speech, then of thought itself. Letting go of all of this, you see, the expressions of the sages in the traditional days used to be much stronger. You're not saying drop it or don't like... become intolerant of action. You're saying let go of how it has to function. Let it function on its own. Don't be concerned about that. Then don't be concerned about how you're expressing yourself, what words are coming. So, I'm not the doer of my actions, neither the speaker of my words, nor the thinker of my thoughts. That is what these words are basically saying. And as we lose our attachment from all of this, then what are we losing? We're losing—it's beautiful—we're losing guilt, we're losing remorse, regret, pride.

Ananta

You're like, 'Okay, he's taking everything away from me. He's taking my action, my speech, my thoughts away from me.' We're losing all of this stuff which is egoistic. You're losing the ego, basically losing the separation. And sometimes it can feel like an attack. Like the story from Ashtavakra, the story from... some said, 'Yes, yes, you're true,' and they'll come and hug you. I'm paraphrasing, of course. But some will say, 'Oh, you're attacking me,' and start crying, you know? So when this Grace is killing this false one, or dissolving this false one—if you prefer it put nicely, huh? Yes, yeah.

Ananta

So when Grace is dissolving this false one, then there can be some fight back from the false one. There can be this... and then it's so good at painting pictures. It hypnotizes you so well you'll forget about all the nice things and all the good times, and only you see the words which seem to attack you. Those will keep ringing in your head. It's very, very common for it to happen like this.

Ananta

I can honestly say that Grace played this entire beautiful play here and got me at Guruji's feet. But the fact is that if they were taken with any openness—any words of the scriptures or any of the Masters were taken with openness—it is completely possible for the flowering of this liberation to happen. But what is happening is that through experience, through all these experiences in life, we're becoming open and open, willing to let go of our most favorite ideas.

Ananta

And if you didn't have any conditions, then just hearing that you are the solitary witness, the unchanging Self, can be the end of this seeming spiritual journey. You don't need any energetic support, nothing. But if Grace has already opened you out... you see, the functioning of Grace is this way. It makes us open to the truth, which is very simple and obvious, actually. So the whole drama, the whole play—choosing between Masters, going here, going there—all of that was all a play of going from closed fist to open fist. Because what is being shared by all the true Masters is just the same thing: You are That. You are the Self. What are the ideas that we are unwilling to throw away?
