DOCUMENTARY EXCERPT 1

लेत मुख नाम राम गंग रस रंग मनी,
देत सुख संग भारी भवभीति भूलती।
सरद ससी के कल किरनें समान,
तुंग तरल तरंग ताके ताप निर्मूलती।।
परसत पाथ सीतानाथ अनुराग बाग,
बेलि रसकेलि उप फैलि फलि फूलती।
सरजू के कूल कौन पूछे रिद्धि सिद्धि मुक्ति,
मुक्ति झुंड झाजन के झारन में झूलती।।

Rasaraṅgamaṇi takes the name “Rāma-Gaṅgā” upon his lips: her company gives such joy that the crushing fear of becoming is forgotten. Like the gentle rays of the autumn moon, her lofty, liquid waves uproot fever. At the touch of her water, the vine of rasa-play spreads, fruits and flowers in the garden of love for Sītānātha. On Sarayū’s bank, who asks for prosperity, powers or liberation? Liberation herself swings among clusters of shrubs and thickets.

Reading holds: गंग and झाजन are retained exactly from the scan and are not silently emended.

जे वासिष्ठी मिष्ट वारि कुल इष्ट हमारी।
अवलोकत अनइष्ट हरनि सुख करनि अपारी।।
जयति कौसला कलित ललित धारा धरनीया।
द्रवरूपा रघुबीर कृपा भवदुख दरनीया।।
जय जननी रस रंग मनि जगमग जग जाहिर चरित।
जय रघुवर दृग जलजजा जय जय जय सरजू सरित।।

Victory to Vāsiṣṭhī, sweet-watered and cherished by our lineage: merely seen, she removes misfortune and brings measureless happiness. Victory to the lovely stream that adorns and sustains Kosala—Raghubīra’s grace made liquid, the cutter-away of worldly pain. Victory to the Mother, says Rasaraṅgamaṇi, whose radiant deeds shine openly through the world. Victory to her born from Raghubara’s lotus eyes; victory, victory, victory to the river Sarayū.
